In July this year Ukraine’s imports of rolled steel products saw a 37.2% MoM and a 49.6% YoY increase compared to July 2009.

UGMK noted a drop in rebar imports from 11.2% to 2.2% as well as YoY decreases in the shares of CR sheet/coils and pipes in Ukraine’s total volume of steel imports which dropped from 10.2% to 7.8% and from 5.5% to 3.4% respectively.
The main suppliers of round billets to Ukraine in July were the Oskol Metallurgical Plant (Russia), a subsidiary of Metalloinvest, and the Byelorussian Iron and Steel Works, the shares of which amounted to 79.3% and 16.1% respectively of total supplies. About 88.3% of total imports of round billets were supplied to Interpipe pipe making subsidiaries.
Ukraine’s main suppliers of HR sheet/coils in July were the Russian steelmakers Severstal and Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, the respective shares of which amounted to 48.6% and 42.8% of total deliveries.
According to UGMK, in July Ukraine’s main importers of rolled steel products were the pipe sector, the share of which amounted to 42.1% of overall steel imports into the country, and the machine-building sector with its share of overall imports amounting to 22.1%. Meanwhile, the local metal trade share of steel imports amounted to 14.7%. (SteelOrbis)
