In January-October Ukrainian ferroalloy companies decreased output by
20%, to 702.5 thousand tons, compared to the same period of last year.

Ukrainian ferroalloy output decreased by 14% in 2012
In 2012 Ukraine's ferroalloy production decreased by 13.8% compared to 2011 to 1.026 million tons.
In 2012 Ukraine's silicomanganese output decreased by 13% to 734,100 tons, its ferromanganese production went down by 12.9% to 157,300 tons, its ferrosilicon output decreased by 20.9% to 119,400 tons, while its metallic manganese production increased by 4.3% to 14,700 tons all compared to 2011.
In 2012 the largest Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant's ferroalloy output decreased by 14.6% YoY to 657,800 tons including 554,800 tons of silicomanganese and 103,000 tons of ferromanganese.
During 2012 Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Zaporozhye Ferro Alloys Plant's ferroalloy output declined by 5.3% YoY to 198,900 tons including 129,900 tons of silicomanganese, 54,300 tons of ferromanganese and 14,700 tons of metallic manganese.
Another major Ukrainian ferroalloy producer - Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant - saw its ferroalloy output fall in 2012 by 19% YoY to 168,800 tons including 119,400 tons of ferrosilicon and 49,400 tons of silicomanganese. (SteelGuru)

Ukrainian ferroalloy output increases by 41% in 11 months
According to the Association of Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers, in January to November Ukraine's ferroalloys production increased by 41.2% YoY to 1.31 million tons.
During 11 months Ukraine’s silicomanganese output increased by 29% to 861,100 tons, its ferromanganese production went up 2.3 times to 258,600 tons, its ferrosilicon output increased by 32% to 176,700 tons and its metallic manganese production increased by 3% to 14,000 tons.
Specifically, in January to November the largest Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant increased its ferroalloy output by 42% YoY to 842,000 tons, including 647,300 tons of silicomanganese and 194,700 tons of ferromanganese.

Ukrainian ferroalloy output in 10 months up by 47% YoY
According to the Association of Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers, in January to October Ukraine increased its ferroalloys production by 47% YoY to 1.19 million tons.
During the first 10 months of this year, Ukraine’s silicomanganese output increased by 34% to 781,900 tons, its ferromanganese production went up 2.4 times to 236,600 tons, its ferrosilicon output increased by 35% to 159,700 tons, while its metallic manganese production remained unchanged from last year amounting to 12,400 tons.
In January to October the largest Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant increased its ferroalloy output by 47.6% YoY to 768,700 tons, including 589,900 tons of silicomanganese and 178,800 tons of ferromanganese. The Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Zaporozhye Ferro Alloys Plant increased its ferroalloy output by 41.3% YoY to 241,400 tons, including 123,100 tons of silicomanganese, 57,800 tons of ferromanganese, 48,000 tons of ferrosilicon and 12,400 tons of metallic manganese.

Ukraine ferroalloy plants ask US DOC to revise antidumping duty
Ukrainian ferroalloy plants have asked the US Department of Commerce to revise the 163% antidumping duty on import of ferromanganese silicon from Ukraine.
According to a report of the UkrFA, Ukrainian association of ferroalloy producers, and other electrometallurgical products, along with the association, Nikopol, Stakhanov and Zaporozhye ferroalloy plants signed the address. (Ukrainian Journal)

Ukraine boosts ferroalloy output by 74% in eight months
According to the Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers Association, Ukraine boosted ferroalloy output 73.7% YoY in January to August to 964,900 tons.
As per report, silicomanganese production grew by 57.4% to 629,600 tons, ferromanganese – by 210% to 196,200 tons, 45%-ferrosilicon – by 54.8% to 129,600 tons and manganese metal by 2.2% to 9,500 tons.
Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant, the biggest of Ukraine’s three smelters, raised silicomanganese production by 44.9% YoY in the eight months to 471,200 tons and ferromanganese – by 4.7 times to 150,100 tons. Overall ferroalloy output at Nikopol rose by 74% YoY to 621,300 tons.
Zaporozhye Ferroalloy Plant (ZFW) saw its silicomanganese production soar 83% to 103,200 tons in eight months, with 45%-ferrosilicon output doubling to 38,200 tons, ferromanganese up by 51.6% to 46,100 tons and manganese metal production rising by 2.2% to 9,500 tons. Overall ferroalloy output at ZFW rose by 71% to 197,100 tons. ZFW controls 30-35% of the Ukrainian market and exports ferroalloys to the CIS, EU, Asia and Africa. It imports concentrate from Ghana, Brazil, Australia, Russia and Poland in order to achieve the right chemical composition for ferroalloys.
PrivatBank controls ZFW and the Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant, which bolstered output by 41.8% to 91,300 tons of 45%-ferrosilicon and by 200% to 55,200 tons of silicomanganese. Its overall ferroalloy production grew by 77.4% to 146,500 tons.
The country’s two manganese concentrate producers, the Ordzhonikidze and Marhanets mining and concentrating works, which PrivatBank also controls, produced 971,100 tons of concentrate between them in January to August, 88.4% more than they produced in the same period of last year.
The State Statistics Committee said Ukraine boosted manganese ore and concentrate exports 7.2-fold YoY in January to July 2010 and for $2.961 million (up by 8.5 times).
The country exported 26,136 tons to Romania for $2.71 million in the seven months, 1,963 tons to the Czech Republic for $16,800 and 1,379 tons to Russia for $83,600. (Interfax)

Ukrainian ferroalloy plants cutting output
Ukrainian Journal quoted UkrFA, ferroalloy maker association, as saying that Zaporozhye Ferro Alloys Plant, Ukraine No 2 ferroalloy producer, would probably suspend production of silicomanganese this month due to weak demand on world and domestic markets.
The association said the company, which currently operates at 25% of its capacity, has been gradually reducing output of ferroalloys during the past three months due to a seasonal drop in demand, but also due to high production costs.
In July this year the largest Ukrainian ferroalloy producer Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant decreased its production of manganese alloys by 10.74% as compared to June and by 19.3% compared to May to 71,929 tons. Another producer, Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant, saw its July ferroalloy output fall by 15.7% as compared to June and by 28.35% as compared to May to 11,488 tons.
However, the worst situation is currently seen at Zaporozhye Ferro Alloys Plant, the output of which in July amounted to 11,842 tons, down by 37% as compared to June and down by 65% as compared to May this year. Currently, the plant produces at just a quarter of its production capacity.
In August Zaporozhye Ferr Alloys Plant was forced to halt its silicomanganese production and plans to produce only 11,000 tons of ferroalloys during the month. Meanwhile, Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant and Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant also plan to cut their production in August to 67,000 tons and 11, 000 tons respectively.
UkrFA said that the main reasons for the current situation facing domestic producers are the complicated state of the world ferroalloy market, the seasonal decline in consumption, high production costs and the high volume of ferroalloy imports in Ukraine.
The ferroalloy producers noted that, in the current year as compared to the previous year, the cost of electricity has increased from $46 to $51 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours, while coke prices have gone up from $97 to $282 per dry metric ton.
Among other negative factors, UkrFA noted the Ukrainian government's abolition of preferential treatment for domestic mining and metallurgical companies, the increase in railway transportation tariffs, and non-payment of VAT refunds. (Ukrainian Journal)
