Domestic steel consumption in Ukraine to fall in 2013

In 2013 local rolled metal consumption in Ukraine would decrease by 6%, to 7.8 million tons YoY, according to Vladimir Vlasyuk, CEO of the state enterprise “Ukrpromvneshexpertiza” (UPE).

Ukrainian metal market showed insignificant growth in H1 2012

It is reported that domestic metal consumption increased by 1% YoY to 3.5 million tons in H1 2012.
The volume of imported products increased by 18% YoY to 840 000 tons during the period, while its share reached 23.9% of the market compared to 20.5% in H1 2011. (Phoenix-capital)

Ukrainian steel products consumption in 2009 down by 11%

According to the Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company, in January domestic steel products consumption in Ukraine was down by 11.3% on December 2009 but up by 31% on January 2009.
Import share in January 2010 amounted 20.5% which is 4 times as much as in January 2009 and up by 7% on 2009.
The consumption of all kinds of steel products grew as compared with January 2009, except rebar supplies of which decreased by 59.2%. Besides, angle supplies grew more than 3 times, beam supplies increased almost 2.5 times. At the same time HR flat steel, coil, and beam supplies grew in January 2010 as compared with December 2009. Rebar supplies fell 3 times.
According to the UGMK report, the main consumers of rolled steel in January 2010 were tube and pipe plants with the purchase volumes of 28.2%. Metal trading is the second top consumer. Machine-building industry is the third top consumer. (Ugmk.info)

Ukrainian traders rolled steel purchases rose by 14% in January

According to the Ukrainian Association of Metal Traders in January Ukraine’s large and medium steel trading companies purchased about 79,192 tons of rolled steel products, including purchases from local mills and also imports up by 14% YoY.
In the first month of the current year the main local steel traders decreased their imports of rolled steel products by 4.1% YoY to 6,675 tons.
Meanwhile, the main domestic suppliers of rolled steel products to Ukrainian trading companies were Zaporozhstal, Azovstal and ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih with the deliveries in January amounting to 14,848 tons, 14,506 tons and 13,522 tons respectively.
In December 2009 local trading companies purchased 110,293 tons of rolled steel products, including 101,858 tons from domestic steelmakers and 8,435 tons of imports. (SteelOrbis)

Ukrainian metals consumption plummets in 11 months

Interfax cited Mr. Andriy Fedoseyev, president of the Ukrainian Metal Traders Association, as saying that metal consumption in Ukraine fell 36.3% YoY in January to November to 4.809 million tons and imports plummeted 67% to 577,288 tons.
Mr. Fedoseyev said Ukrainian pipe mills bought 1.397 million tons of locally produced and imported roll and feedstock down by 31.9% YoY from January to November last year. Construction firms bought 68,170 tons down by 70%, rail producers - 102,715 tons up by 49.1%, and metalware producers - 387,243 tons down by 28.6%.
Traders, including small firms, bought 1.275 million tons of metal down by 48.9%, mining and metallurgical companies - 548,069 tons up by 40.4% and machinery plants - 523,732 tons down by 62.2%.
Metal traders accounted for 27% of domestic market steel consumption in January to November, pipe mills - 29%, machine building plants - 11%, mining and metallurgical companies - 19%, metalware producers - 8%, construction firms – 1%, railway enterprises - 2% and others - 3%.
Metals consumption in Ukraine fell by 16.5% in 2008 to 7.89 million tons, but imports grew by 6.6% to 1.766 million tons. (Interfax)
